The ACA, also known as the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare, is a landmark health care reform law enacted in the United States in 2010. Below is a summary of its key aspects:
Objectives:
Expand health insurance coverage: The ACA aimed to make health insurance more affordable and accessible to millions of Americans who were previously uninsured.
Reforming the health insurance marketplace: The ACA introduced regulations to prevent insurance companies from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions or charging higher premiums.
Key provisions:
Health Insurance Marketplaces: The ACA created online marketplaces (healthcare.gov) where individuals and small businesses can shop and compare health insurance plans from private insurers.
Subsidies: To help make coverage more affordable, the ACA provides subsidies (premium tax credits) to low- and middle-income individuals and families who buy health insurance through the marketplaces.
Pre-existing conditions: The ACA prohibits insurance companies from denying coverage or charging more based on pre-existing health conditions.
Young adults: The ACA allows young adults to stay on their parents' health insurance plans until age 26.
Preventive care: ACA-compliant health plans must cover preventive benefits such as checkups, screenings, and vaccinations with no deductibles or copays.

Who is eligible for Marketplace Insurance?
Eligibility for Obamacare (Marketplace Insurance) depends on several factors, including:
Citizenship or immigration status: You must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or certain non-citizens lawfully present in the U.S.
Residency: You must live in a state or service area that has a Health Insurance Marketplace.
Immigration Status: Specific eligibility requirements apply to different immigration statuses. It is best to consult with the Marketplace or consult an immigration attorney for detailed information.
Who qualifies based on their immigration status: People with CBP One, political asylum, work permit, and/or humanitarian parole.
Income: Generally, your income must be within certain income limits to be eligible for subsidies (premium tax credits) that help lower the cost of Marketplace plans.
Other factors: You cannot be incarcerated or have been recently incarcerated.
You may not be eligible for free or low-cost health coverage through other sources, such as employer-sponsored insurance or Medicaid.
Here's a simplified overview of income eligibility for subsidies:
Eligible for the subsidy: If your household income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
Not eligible for subsidy: If your household income is below 100% of the FPL (you may qualify for Medicaid in your state) or above 400% of the FPL (you generally don't qualify for subsidies, but you can still buy a Marketplace plan without them).
Regulations and Requirements:
To participate in the Marketplace, insurers must comply with ACA regulations, including:
Guaranteed Issue: They can't deny coverage or charge more based on pre-existing health conditions.
Essential health benefits: All Marketplace plans must cover a set of essential health benefits, such as hospitalization, doctor visits, emergency services, and mental health services.
Metal Tiers: Plans are categorized into metal tiers (bronze, silver, gold, and platinum) based on the percentage of costs covered by the plan (higher tiers offer more upfront costs but lower deductibles).
